The story of ground | The Somatic Space
The Beginning — A Quiet Return to SelfGround | The Somatic Space began long before its name was born, in a moment of burnout and a quiet, necessary return to self. Carmen, the founder of Ground | The Somatic Space, was first introduced to yoga in 2011 while interning in India for the fashion industry.
Her life at the time was fast‑paced, global, and creatively rich, yet beneath it all lived a deep sense of disconnection. That disconnection eventually collided with profound loss in 2015, when one of her dearest friends passed away. Grief slowed her down; yoga held her through it. In time, presence began to return.
The Turning Point — Answering the CallA year later, Carmen left the corporate world behind and followed a quiet calling back to India, where she trained to become a yoga teacher. That decision became a turning point, a merging of joy, purpose, and belonging. Her healing, however, had begun much earlier.
As a teenager, Carmen navigated life under the weight of anxiety and self‑doubt, experiences that shaped how she moved through the world and influenced her sense of self‑worth. Through movement and somatic awareness, those narratives began to soften and shift. Fear gave way to love, and disconnection transformed into presence.
The Practice — Learning by FeelingOver the years, Carmen has immersed herself in diverse studies: yoga, meditation, breathwork, fascial intelligence, neuroplasticity, subconscious integration, and somatic embodiment. Each modality became something she lived through her own body before offering it to others.
Through deep experience, she came to understand that healing does not arrive from outside ourselves, it arises from presence, from the body, from awareness itself. It’s not about acquiring calm, but learning to hold it; not about visiting peace, but learning how to carry it within.
The Offering — A Home of Grounded HealingGround | The Somatic Space was born from this truth, a home of grounded healing where body, mind, and soul meet in wholeness, where science and spirit intertwine, and where people are invited to remember what it feels like to truly belong to themselves again.
Inspired by the words of Ram Dass, “We’re all just walking each other home,”Carmen sees Ground as both an offering and a calling: a reminder that true healing doesn’t come from constant striving, but from softening back into who we already are.
